Reasons Why You Over swing and How to Correct the Problem

Over swinging is very common in golf, and the problem can be corrected very easily. The definition of an over swing is when a golfer takes the golf shaft beyond the point where it is parallel to the ground at the top of the backswing.
Over swinging often includes too big of a body turn, and allowing the lever arm to collapse. For instance, a right-handed golfer may turn too much in one direction, and will bend the left elbow too much. Other components of an over swing would be cupping or over cocking the wrists, and opening the fingers of the lever arm hand.
In addition, an over swing also may consist of totally straightening or totally collapsing the rear leg. In addition, the person who over swings usually leans the spine toward the target, with weight on the forward leg.
Generally speaking, over swinging becomes a problem because an excess of moving body parts makes bringing the club back to position at the appropriate time more difficult. It also prevents a person from swinging the same way twice. These situations can be corrected, however, and the person’s overall golf game can be dramatically improved.
In order to correct the situation of an over swing a golfer needs to make some changes at the top of the backswing. One change is to make sure both eyes can see the ball. In order to test this you can close one eye at a time to find out, and the eye furthest from the target should be ideally closed first, because this will be the most important point to test.
Another action that a person can take at the top of a backswing is to make sure the spine angle is relatively vertical from the face-on view. It should not be leaning towards the target (The ball). In addition, your weight will need to be considerably heavier on your rear leg, and your knee should be flexed at the same angle, and that your knee should not move or point outside the foot.
Other precautions that can be taken to avoid over swinging is to make sure the lever arm (the left hand for right-handed golfers) is reasonably extended, but not totally rigid, rather than collapsed. Also, the hands and the wrist should be under control, and the fingers of the lever arm hand should remain closed
In addition, the back of the hand should not be bent back towards the forearm, and the hand grip should remain in tact. Also, for those who are not double-jointed, the angle between the shaft and the lever arm should not exceed much more than 90 degrees.
Those who follow the above tips will not usually be able to over swing.
If you follow these tips it could greatly improve your golf play. If you need further help you may want to consider a variety of options. For instance, some of these include watching golf videos, or taking golf classes. Others include having a friend or partner golfer show you how to improve your swing.
