You have quite a few different varieties of clubs to use. Some are wood and some are iron.
Older wood golf clubs were made from persimmon, hickory or maple wood. The more modern ones are made of hollow steel or titanium, or a variety of materials. Some of these clubs are known as metal woods, and some of the earlier metal wood clubs contained foam inside. Therefore, when one refers to a wood club it could mean a variety of things.
Many of the wood or hollow metal clubs are more lightweight than those made of iron. They are lighter than the ones made of steel as well. Golfers like to use golf clubs made from a variety of materials for different reasons.
The lighter materials such as wood and metal wood clubs allow a golfer to swing at faster speeds. These are often used if a person wants to shoot a golf ball at a farther distance. Some of the heavier clubs, or the ones with the shorter shafts, ore ones often used to shoot a ball a shorter distance.
A person can use one iron or one wood club and make it throughout the entire game. However, most players use a variety of different types of clubs for different shots, as mentioned in the previous paragraph. Quite a few factors help players determine which the best types of clubs are.
Certain factors that determine which kinds of clubs a player should use include a players overall ability and style. Other factors are more specific to each player, such as the player’s course handicap, or a player’s swing weight.
A player’s course handicap is what is used to calculate changes between people of varying skill levels. One person could be quite a bit more experienced than another and the match could still be a challenge enough to that person, and easy enough for the lesser experienced player. A person’s handicap level is often used to determine a person’s skill level. Various recommendations are made for people of all different playing levels.
For instance, in the case of choosing a shaft, the less experienced players are usually advised to use the lightest one possible for them. It will help them develop confidence as they use a shaft that is comfortable for them. Then, they are able to switch to a heavier one later on.
One very important aspect of golf is determining the swing weight. If a golfer knows his or her personal swing weight, that person can more easily choose a club, or a set of clubs. In addition, if that player knows exactly how consistent and accurate they are at making certain shots with various clubs they will easier be able to identify the right club set.
There is no set rule as to which club set would be better for each person. This decision is often highly individualized, especially if a golfer has a set of clubs individually made. Also, there are varying degrees of thickness of various types of both wood and metal, including iron. In addition, when metal clubs (such as iron) are made they are made in a variety of ways.
Some iron clubs, or clubs made out of other metals, are made by either forging them into shape from a solid metal, or from melting the metal and pouring it into a mold. This creates a variety of qualities of golf clubs that are made. The three main construction points of a golf club are the shaft, the grip, and the head. These are made into various shapes, lengths, and sizes as well.
The advantages of the heavier clubs over the lighter ones, such as iron versus wood or metal wood, are that they are more durable. However, they may be harder to control for some people. Therefore, some may prefer the wood or metal wood shafted golf clubs instead.
If a person is not sure which shafts to use they can find the help they need that will further guide them in the right direction. This information is made available to the public in many ways. Some of it is located on golfing websites, and some of it is located on golf and general sporting goods sites.
Other information regarding both wood and iron shafts can be found in magazines such as Golfer’s Digest or others. These are found on newsstands and can be ordered online.

Softer spikes are the new things when it comes to golf. They are generally preferred now over the old metal tipped shoes.
Softer spikes that are made on golf shoes are made out of plastic rather than metal. They are more lightweight and are less likely to tear up the golf green. In fact, some golf establishments require that players wear the shoes with the plastic spikes, rather than the metal.
The plastic (softer spiked) shoe has many advantages. For instance, the wider size of the spike helps spread the weight of a player across a larger area, which is the reason less turf is dug up. Furthermore, plastic spike designed shoes offer a large amount of traction needed for hard summer conditions. In fact, some plastic spikes offer even more traction than the metal spikes.
If you currently own metal spiked shoes and want to switch to plastic, it is possible for you to do so. If you want to switch spikes you need to know that various types of golf shoes have different types of spike fastening systems. Therefore, if you are attempting to replace new spikes you need to make sure you purchase the right ones. It is best to use the ones that are made for your brand of golf shoe.
You can find replacement spikes if you search on the Internet. You may even be able to find golf shoe dealers on the Internet that do business in your area. This will help make it easier for you when you decide to shop for these, because you can search for what you want online, and then possibly have it shipped to a store.
The availability of spikes for golf shoes in specific area depends upon whether or not there are stores in your area that sell them. If not, you can use the Internet to have them shipped directly to your home, usually within a few days to a few weeks. The length of time that it takes to receive your replacement spikes depends upon which type of shipping service you use.
If you are unsure if you should switch to softer spiked shoes, you may want to consult someone for advice. Perhaps you know a professional golfer who could answer your questions, or you could e-mail or call a golf shoe dealer representative who will answer all your questions. You can also join online golfing communities that include forums and discussions for golfers who want to discuss the advantages of purchasing softer spikes for your shoes.
The other obvious option of course is to just purchase a whole new pair of shoes. These shoes of course can also be found by searching the Internet as well, just like the spikes can be found. Often times, you will notice it is easier to shop for golf shoes on the Internet know exactly which size you need and exactly what you are looking for when you make your purchase.
Whenever you purchase something from the Internet, including plastic spikes or softer shoes, you will want to make sure you know the return policy of the seller where you purchased your shoes.
If you know what the return policy is of the seller you are doing business with, you will be able to return the shoes if they do not fit right. You may also be able to exchange them for a smaller or larger size. A seller’s return policy tells you exactly in how much time and under what terms returns are acceptable.
If you are not sure where to look for new golf shoes or replacement spikes, especially if you are on a limited budget, you may want to consider online auctions. Many reputable sellers can supply you with what you need way below regular retail prices in many cases. You can also try online discount sporting goods stores, or stores that sell replicas of brand names.
Now you know the benefits if using softer spiked shoes and how you can find them. These shoes are preferred even by many pros, and they have been known to help improve many golfers’ game play.
Soon these shoes may completely replace the metal ones all together, or at least the old metal ones. Many people who are looking for a quicker, safer move on the green recommend them.

Newbie golfers, those who are new to the sport and inexperienced, should always go for pre-owned golf clubs. Used clubs have many advantageous for someone just starting out in this ancient and respected sport. One of the best reasons to start out with used clubs is the simple fact that a newbie doesn’t really know if he or she will enjoy the game enough to continue until having played a few games. With that in mind, keeping the expenses low when learning the game of golf is always a good idea. Spending a lot of money on new, high priced golf clubs can really run up a bill, and if after playing a few games a newbie decides that golf is just not the game for him or her, then it is better to have a smaller amount of money tied up in golf clubs.
Another good reason for a newbie to start with pre-owned golf clubs is that better clubs can be acquired for less money when a person starts with used clubs. A fraction of the cost of new clubs will get a newbie started with a much higher quality set of clubs that could have been imagined possible.
It is easy to see that starting with used golf clubs is a good idea. Finding a good place to acquire good used clubs is another question entirely but it is a fairly easy question to answer. First, check with your friends who have been playing golf for a while. Many times these players will have up upgraded their golf equipment and may still have a perfectly good set of used clubs sitting in a closet just begging for use. In that case, you may be able to find a bargain among one of your friends.
Another good way to find used clubs that will suit you and fill the bill is through visiting garage sales, yard sales and other rummage type sales, when people are getting rid of items they no longer want at lower prices than you would find anywhere else. These sales also include the large swap meets that occur in some towns, and the charity bazaars and neighborhood sales that are often held on a yearly basis by certain groups. By visiting yard sales many bargains can be found. Someone who no longer has time to play golf may have decided to sell a good set of clubs at a tenth of what a similar set would cost in a store.
Pawn shops, flea markets and thrift stores are also a good place to find used golf clubs that will suit your needs. Oftentimes charitable organizations will support themselves through operating thrift stores and will accept donations. When these stores are visited many people are quite surprised at the low prices and the high level of quality items that can be found. Many people have found bargains in used golf clubs in thrift stores. Others have found flea markets to be wonderful opportunities for acquiring good used golf clubs.
If you’ve tried the methods listed above and still haven’t found a good set of used golf clubs to get you started in your golfing career, then look in the classified section of your local newspaper, or the throw away shopper type paper that most towns have. Often times people will advertise used golf clubs for sale in these venues and if you are quick you may find a bargain. Other method is through going online. Often times golf enthusiasts will participate in groups, chat rooms and forums for those of like mind and if you were to join one of these forums you could put the word out about what you were looking for. Members of these forums are anxious to help those with similar interests and many times they will steer you in the right direction to find your good used golf clubs. If that doesn’t work, then online auctions may hold the key. But be careful and check out the seller carefully. Or, just find a store in your region that offers discount golf supplies. Chances are good that they will have used golf clubs for sale. However you find then, newbies should always start with pre-owned golf clubs.

When Going the Custom Golf Club Route is Right for You
Buying golf equipment is not just a simple matter of picking out a set of clubs and paying for them. Purchasing a set of clubs, especially custom clubs takes a matter of accuracy. It is important to be precise though because your clubs are designed to help you play your game well, while having a fun time.Â
To start with, before you purchase anything, you should know what your golfing skills are. This is because every level of player has different needs in regards to their clubs. The beginning golfer, who is just learning to swing, really does not need to worry about a custom set of clubs just yet. However, once you have reached the intermediate level, you may want to consider purchasing your own set. Although you can opt to buy any type of clubs that you want, it is advisable to focus on forgiveness. This is because when your ball does miss the hole, you still want it to stay in bounds. The majority of companies can easily inform you which of their irons are the most forgiving.
If the time has come where you feel that you are ready for your own new set of clubs, it does make a good deal of sense to buy a custom set. Not only are custom clubs typically close in price to clubs you can buy in the store; they are also geared to suit your physical measurements, strength, playing characteristics and goals.
A good set of custom clubs will suit you as an individual. They are tailored to fit your height, age, swing speed, swing type, strength, and level of play. The ultimate goal when getting a custom fitted set of clubs is to advance your game and take strokes off your scorecard. Seeing as everyone is built different physically, custom clubs can make all the difference in your game. If you’re taller, or shorter than the average person, having you clubs made to fit you perfectly can make all of the difference in your game.
Getting fit for a set of custom clubs is a process that takes time; you should not be in a rush. The fitting session for your custom clubs should take place inside as well as out. Your goal is not only to ensure that the golf club reaches from your outstretched hand down to the ground, but also that it makes the most of your body and build.
There are several measurements as well as an assessment of your game that should be conducted before you are fit for your clubs. To be properly custom fit for a set of golf clubs, you will need to provide your fitter with some personal information. These details include: your gender, your height in socks, the distance from your wrist to the floor without shoes, your age, your handicap and skill level, how fast you swing a club, and what club you use when at the 150 yard marker.
Because the golf industry uses different classifications of standard length for men and women, gender is used to place you in the proper fitting scale. Your height and the distance in inches from your wrist to the floor are used in combination to establish the length of golf club that is suitable for you. Your age, handicap, skill level, golf swing speed and club you use at the 150 yard marker are all combined to determined the shaft flex that is best suited for you.
There are some golf club manufacturers that will charge a high fee for you to get custom fitted for clubs, however there are some places that offer this service for free as long as you purchase your clubs from them. This can be a good idea as custom clubs and fitting sessions can be costly.
After you have been fit for your clubs, you are apt to be anxious to have them in your golf bag and ready to use. The time it takes for you to receive them from the manufacturer can very. Some places can deliver within a matter of days and other places may take weeks. No matter how long you have to wait, it will be worth it in the end.

When it comes to hiring a golf instructor for lessons or when investigating golf schools you should spend time looking for the one that is right for you. There are certain steps you can take to help you in your search for a golf instructor.
The first thing you want to determine is what your budget is to pay your golf instructor. It is also important to decide what it is that you’re looking to improve. Do you just want to improve on your golf swing, or are you looking to totally re-establish your swing? Some golf teachers may be better at one than the other, it is important that you find out where their strengths lay. Recommendations and word of mouth go a long way. Ask around, see who has used golf instructors before and see whom they suggest you go with. If your friends do not have personal experience with an instructor, they may know someone who has, or your local club may be able to refer someone to you.
Do not go with the first instructor that you come across. Narrow a list down to around five possible golf instructors and then review their qualifications. Since you will be paying good money for their service, feel free to investigate. Find out places they have taught before and call their employers for references and ask about their teaching techniques.
When you have decided on someone, set up an interview. This can be done on the phone or face-to-face. Have a list ready of questions that are important to you for them to answer. This will also be a good opportunity for you to discover their personality and decided if it will work well with yours.
A benefit in hiring a pro is that your exact golf weaknesses are addressed. Once he has identified your problem areas, your coach will be able to recommend exercises to correct your issues and work with you until you get them right.
Your golf coach should be able to teach you techniques that will help you avoid undo injuries while you are learning to play the game. They should also be able to provide you with a helpful warm up routine that you can start out with before you step onto the golf course.
You want to make sure that the pro you hire does not offer you a quick fix. You want to hire a pro that will take the time to work with you properly, building on the basics of golf, not a fad method. It may take you longer to learn, or improve on your game; however, the end results will be ongoing.
If you find the cost of one-on-one lessons too expensive, you could opt to split the cost among a group and all learn together. Ideally though, there should be no more than four students to a coach. That way, even though your costs are cut down, you will still be able to receive individual instruction from the golf pro.
You should always go for quality over quantity when working with your pro. It is far more advisable to excel at a few golf techniques, than it is to learn many, but none of them very well.
Always bear in mind that one of the main points behind hiring a pro, is so that in the long run, you will be able to play well without having them there to guide you. That means being able to properly do your own warm-up and stretching routine as well, not just playing the game.
Although working with a pro can be helpful at any time, there are three times in a golfer’s career where lessons from an educated professional can be even more worthwhile and helpful. The first situation would be when a person is initially attempting to learn the game of golf. The next time using a pro would be helpful is when the typical player begins to notice a decline in his game and cannot figure out why. Even when you are playing above average, a pro can come in handy if you are looking to improve your skills or move on to an even higher level of playing.Â
Once you are ready to part ways with your trainer, it is still a good idea to keep in touch periodically. About once a year or so, you should get together with your pro and see if they have any advice or tips to offer you on improving your game.

What are Hybrid Golf Clubs and Reasons Why You Should Have Them
Hybrid golf clubs that are assembled with a choice of shaft, flex, length, and grip. They are made out of a variety of different materials, such as titanium woods, steel woods, and irons.
The advantage of custom-made clubs is that they are designed for your specific swing weight, as well as your overall golfing ability and style. More specifically, you need to be able to have the right club that can help you achieve the right ball flight, ball dispersion, feel, or distance. It may take some trial and error, however, before you are able to have your clubs made for maximum benefit to you.
Beginning golfers will usually spend some time practicing with a variety of different golf clubs before purchasing their own. However, it is possible for beginners to still have golf clubs made for them with a little assistance, if they know that they are serious about pursuing golf. It would not hurt to start out with the best from the beginning, after all.
Usually experts will advise that less experienced golfers start out with a more flexible shaft. Then, if this one does not work well, a person will want to consider one that is a little stiffer. If a person wants to know for sure before having clubs made they can attend demo days on the green.
Another factor that affects what type of club a person buys, or has made for them is club head, speed, ball speed, launch angle, and back spring rate. All of these can be analyzed and calculated to help a person choose the right shaft, club head, and grip. All these can help monitor a player’s swinging ability.
Another factor that could influence what types of golf clubs a person buys, or has made, includes that of how far a ball can be driven. For instance, it is advised that those who hit a ball approximately 260 yards or more off the tee use a shaft with a stiffer flex. Players who hit less than this may need a softer shaft. In addition, those who are not sure should also start off with a softer shaft.
The weight of shaft can be tailored to a person as well. For instance, a lighter shaft can help you hit a ball faster, but also requires more effort to hit accurately and consistently. In addition, a longer shaft can help you hit a ball farther, but it makes it more difficult for you to make contact in close quarters. It is usually recommended that you have both short and long shafts to help you in this case.
The amount of money that you would need to spend on a single golf club or an entire set depends upon what are your personal preferences. It also depends upon how much money that you have a well. If you are not a person who is ready to spend money on brand name clubs, it is possible that the making of a hybrid set of clubs will save you money.
The reason that hybrid clubs can save you money is because they can be designed with whatever materials that you request. This will help you have the best clubs made for you for the least amount of money possible.
Shopping for hybrid clubs can be done in a specialty golf shop or sporting goods store where you live. However, if you do not have one where you live, you can use the Internet to order them online. Ordering online can be the quickest way to shop for them if you already know exactly what you are looking for and what you need. Furthermore, you can find quite a bit of variety at your fingertips to choose from as well.
One word of warning about shopping on the Internet is that you need to make sure that you deal with reputable and honest sellers. In addition, you will want to make sure you know what the return policy is on an item, in case that the item is not exactly what you thought it would be. This return policy would tell you exactly how long you would have to receive an exchange or refund in case of a defect or wrong fit, and it would tell you all the specific conditions by which returns are possible.

What a Handicap Means in the Game of Golf
Certain measures can be taken to find out a golf player’s personal handicap as well as the overall course handicap. These are used to help give everyone a fair chance on the field.
A course handicap in golf means the number that determines how many strokes that you get on each hole. This number is what is used to help golfers of different skill levels play against one another, and both have an equal advantage.
A golfer’s handicap can help a player regardless of where the golf is being played. It is used to help determine a player’s personal handicap index. Course handicap is the sum of the slop rating plus the course rating. This method of figuring golf handicaps was established by the USGA handicapping System in the early 1980s. A player’s scores and course ratings help calculate a handicap index.
The handicap index is the measurement that is compared to the slop rating of the current game that a player competes in, and the average slope of 113. Then, another calculation is made. The handicap index is multiplied by slop rating of trees played, divided by 113.
An example of the use of the handicap index rating formula is the following:
Your Handicap Index: 14.8Â Â Course Slope: 129
The formula to figure out a player’s course handicap with the above figures is the following:
The Formula: 14.8 x129/113. (14.8 times 129, divided by 113) The answer to this example would then be 16.9, approximately.
In the case of the above example, the slope of the course a person played golf on is higher than the average of 113. Therefore, that person was given extra strokes, and that person’s handicap index was raised from 14.6 to 16. This is the figure which determines how many strokes a person gets and on which holes.
Another use of the golfer’s handicap is to determine how well of a golfer a person is. The lower handicap number that a person has, the better golf player that person is considered to be. This means that a person with a handicap of a 2 (which is considered extremely good), is a better golfer than a person who has a handicap of 11, or one who has a handicap of 17.
The overall purpose of a golfer’s handicap is to help a person find their potential rather than to just rate that person’s current playing ability (calculating an average of that person’s scores). This example can be explained in the following way: A person who has an average of 20/par will likely not have a handicap of 20. Because of the way handicaps are calculated, this will be several strokes lower than 20.
Usually the handicap index mentioned earlier in this article is determined by the minimum of five of a golfer’s most recent scores. This is the other part of the equation that was explained earlier in this article, which determines a player’s handicap index.
The handicap index is what is used before a person enters a course. In fact, most golf courses will have posted a course handicap chart. This will list the slope rating of the tees that a golfer plans to play, and then that golfer can find his or her handicap listed on that chart. This is what will indicate the course handicap, and is already calculated for golf players as they enter the course.
Players are not required to acquire a USGA Handicap Index in order to be successful at golf play. In fact, many recreational golfers never get one. However, those players who desire to compete in official golf tournaments. Therefore, those players who play just for fun now are advised to unofficially keep track of their handicap so they know what to expect if they decide to play in a tournament later on.
Keeping track of your golf handicap helps give you an incentive to improve your golf playing. Setting small goals can do this. For instance, if you have a handicap of 15, you may consider dropping it to a 10. Then, you would make adjustments to help make that happen.
Another reason why players may want an official handicap calculated (rather than just an unofficial calculation) is that it can help reduce the number of conflicts on the course. This is true no matter what the situation is, and whether or not it is an official tournament. This is especially necessary in games that are played for money.
The common accusation of players in a golf game such as a four person scramble is that the team is accused of having a sandbagger. A sandbagger is a person who falsifies a handicap score as lower than it actually is to help win tournaments or other matches.
Official handicaps help ensure that people will play fairly. They are not totally foolproof calculations, but they can surely help bring fairness.

Although golfing is an excellent way to stay in shape and be healthy, it can also subject you to various aches and pains. It is important to always remember that when you are golfing, you will be using muscles that you don’t always utilize in your daily life. For this reason, it is essential to be golf ready.
After a long day on the course swinging clubs, the small muscles in your hands can become tired and your back has been exposed to demanding contortions. Most golfers, if they are lucky, play about once a week during the golf season and hit about 10 or 20 practice balls before a round. If you hit an average of forty to fifty shots per round of golf, as well as twenty practice balls you will make an estimated five hundred full swings per golf season. The fast majority of people are not prepared to have that much stress placed on our muscles.
If you are planning a golf trip, the first step is to prepare your body throughout the year with regular strength and flexibility training. As the time for your trip grows closer, start hitting more practice balls, with a goal of working your way up to around one hundred balls every second day.
Remember to pack some ibuprofen for your golf trip. Think about taking 600mg in the morning and again after you have completed your rounds for the day. It is always important that you listen to your body; if you start having continual aches and pains, take a break for a while.
If you notice some shoulder pain, especially in your back swing, it could indicate a rotator-cuff tear or ligament injury. First of all, it is important to find out if this is an injury that will heal with time like with most minor muscle tears, strains or stretched ligaments. Or, if this is the type of injury that may need surgical treatment such as a rotator cuff or complete ligament tear. Typically, a doctor will recommend that you take around two months off from any activity that causes pain, and then reassess the injury. If after this time you are still having pain you should see an orthopedic physician. If the pain is gone, you can likely return to your previous activities slowly, always remembering to listen to your body.
A little time and effort on your part can go a long way in preventing golf injuries and aches to your body. Four key things you can do to prevent aches are warm-up, swing, biomechanics, and carrying the golf bag.
You should always carry your golf bag safely to prevent low back pain. An integrated golf bag stand that opens when the bag is set on the ground can eradicate the need to bend over. Bag straps that place all the weight on just one shoulder can be hard on the back. Ideally, you should use dual straps on your golf bag so the weight is evenly distributed across the back. This will decrease your chances of developing low back pain.
Warm-up your muscles before playing golf to avoid low back pain. A complete warm-up before starting to golf, including stretching and easy swings is essential for the muscles to prepare for the game. Stretching should focus on the shoulder, torso, and hip regions as well as the hamstring muscles. Holding a golf club behind the neck and shoulders may stretch the shoulder and torso and then revolving the torso can stretch the shoulder and torso effectively. Pulling each knee to the chest is a good way to stretch out your hips while toe touches stretch your hamstring. Muscles that have been stretched are much less apt to be injured and can take more stress before being injured.
Practice your golf swing before playing to avoid low back pain. The purpose of a golf swing is to develop considerable club head speed, in doing this, plenty of force and twisting is applied to the lower back. An even, rhythmic swing will minimize stress and low back pain.
When you are new to golfing, it helps to work with a pro; this will aid you in avoiding a low back injury. This is because most positions your body twists into when golfing are actually not natural or instinctive.

Do you want to become a pro golfer? If so then remember that it all starts with conditioning your body. Golf is a sport, just like any other and golf pros are usually in very good physical condition. Many people watch them on television without realizing that these people, whether men or women and of many varying ages, are athletes just as basketball players, hockey players and tennis pros are athletes. They get in good shape and stay in good shape, watch their diets and make sure that they are able to perform at an optimum level.
A good way to being the process of conditioning your body is to regulate your diet. Cutting out sugars can start the process. Quit drinking so much soda, eating candy bars and other foods that contain large amounts of processed sugar. If you must have something sweet, then try a piece of fruit. Also make sure that your diet includes whole grains, such as brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta that is made from whole wheat and not white bleached flour.
Make sure that our diet includes lots of green, leafy vegetables. Spinach, lettuce, oats, bran, wheat germ, kale, parsley, carrots, pears, apples, peaches, grapes, plums, tomatoes, green beans, lentils, and other foods that contain lots of fiber are good for you, good for conditioning your body and good for your game as well.
Next make sure that you cut back on fats. Moderate amounts of butter can be fine, but drink skim milk rather than whole milk. Pick lean meats. Lots of protein is essential since protein helps to build strong muscles, such as lean beef, pork, and poultry and especially fish. Remember also that many fish products contain Omega 3 fatty acids that are thought by medical scientists to be essential for good health and body conditioning. There are many good diets out there and many good books on diets. However, avoid the fad diets that many people follow. See what doctors and dieticians recommend and take that information to heart.
Next begin your routine of building up your muscles. One of the best exercises a person can do is simply walking. Getting up in the morning and taking a walk, and taking another in the evening is one of the best ways to start to condition your body. Some people enjoy running or jogging and that is great exercise but can be hard on the knees. Quick walking that increases the pulse rate and metabolism will strengthen muscles and help you process food better. You can also walk in your own neighborhood, or go to a local mall and join a mall-walkers group in order to walk in all types of weather.
Jumping rope, using rowing machines, riding a stationary bicycle and other exercise machines that are available for use are a good reason to join a local health club or gym. These facilities usually have trainers who will work out a personal plan for you, a list of exercises to do every day on a regular, consistent basis to condition your body and get you ready for the athletic requirements of being a golf pro. If you have a partner to work out with, it will help you both, and many times the trainer can help you find a workout partner.
Many people enjoy some of the alternative methods of getting a body conditioned. Yoga, tai chi, karate and other martial arts provide great means of conditioning your body, but you don’t have to be exotic unless you simply have had a long time desire to indulge in these types of exercises. Many people enjoy tai chi or karate, or yoga and others enjoy joining a health club, gym or spa, but you can do your conditioning in your own home if you wish. No need to spend lots of money.
Also remember to practice your golf game. Set aside as much time as possible to practice your swing and all other aspects of your golf game. If you want to become a pro golfer it is possible if you have the time, the dedication and hopefully some talent. Hold onto your dreams, and give it a shot.

What are the ins and outs of chipping in the game of golf? A good question for the golf novice to ask. If you are taking lessons from a golf pro, or even a more experienced friend the subject of chipping will come up, and learning this skill will improve your game. Always remember that a chip shot is preferred when you are a short distance from the putting green. A chip shot is usually accomplished with a low lofted club and the goal is to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible on the green.
For proper chipping, choose a club with very low lift. Choices vary but can be a four iron, a seven iron, or anything in between. The golfer should then select a target to aim for on the green and prepare an estimate of where the golfer wants the ball to eventually stop. The golfer should then grasp the club by the shaft near the grip end. Then the golfer should flex his or her knees to get down to the ball. The golfer should also keep the ball close to his or her feet and shift most of his or her body weight to the left side, or if left handed to the right side. Then the golfer should loosen elbows and use a putting stroke, swinging the club an equal distance through the ball.
Tips to follow when chipping include keeping hands even or ahead of the head of the club on the follow through of the stroke. A player should also have a firm grip on the club preventing the rough from twisting the club when on the swing. A player should get the ball rolling on the grass as quickly as it can be accomplished, allowing greater and easier shot control. In deep rough the player should angle his or her club so that the toe is the only part of the club touching the ground. If playing in downhill or in windy conditions or on what are known as fast greens, the ball chip always be chipped instead of pitching.
Golf players often have a question of when to chip and when to pitch. Remember that the chip is a small swinging and the goal is for the ball to land on the green in a way that will allow it to roll to the hole, or cup. Pitching is a similar swing but with pitching the ball can land on the front part of the grassy area, or green and roll to the cup, or hole.  When to pitch and when to chip is a matter of individual choice and golfers can disagree on it quite frequently.
Chipping, like most other shots in golf, is improved with practice and serious golfers tend to spend as much time as they can work on chipping. The result of course is an improved game and a better score.
Of course, chipping isn’t the only type of golf shot a serious golfer should work on. Chipping is considered an approach shot, since it is playing into the green from the outside and is played over a short distance. Other approach shots the golfer must deal with are the pitch and the flop. The pitch is shot that puts the ball on or at least near the green. A pitch shot can be hit with clubs that range from six iron to lob wedge. A flop is a higher in approach shot that will stop not long after it hits the ground, and is for times when a player has to deal with an obstacle. It is often played with a sand wedge or perhaps a lob wedge. The chip on the other hand is a shot that requires the ball to make a very shallow flight and to then roll out onto the green. The chip requires a flatter trajectory than the others.
People who are inexperienced at the game of golf often find it confusing, but to a serious golfer with a love of the game there is no confusion whatsoever and deciding on the proper time for a chip shot, a flop, or a pitch is as important as the opening tee time stroke.Â
