So, unless you are the next Tiger Woods, or Happy Gilmore you are likely never going to collect any of those big old fake checks. But, it is okay, because your golf club bag is built for the every day golfer.  It is a venerable fortress for your not so perfect game.

Say There Henry, ‘What’s Is It You Got There In Your Bag?’

The basics of your golf club bag are a good set of clubs, and an ample supply of both golf balls and tees. You should include a water bottle, a towel and plenty of sunscreen for those really hot days. For added protection, you can throw in a pair of sunglasses, so you can track the flight of your partner’s golf ball more easily.

For those more unpredictable weather days, you should put a foldable rain poncho and a large trash bag or two to store wet or non-water resistant items inside your golf club bag. A small foldable umbrella might also be a welcome addition on those days during that you are waiting out the rain delay on the course.

Yeah Baby, Now I’m Ready for the Weather. That’s It, Right?

Not quite yet my friend, there are a few other things a smart and well prepared player will want to include in their golf club bag. It is a great idea to put a few coins in a small compartment of your bag. There is nothing worse that being stuck out on the 13th hole only to realize you don’t have any loose change for the vending machine.

And, for those small cravings for food, you should throw in a couple of your favorite munchies such as an energy bar or a sandwich. It is impossible to focus on your game while the pangs of hunger are pounding in your head. And, it is far cheaper to buy your food somewhere other than at the clubhouse. A small bit of preparation on your part to stock your golf club bag will serve you well on the course and in your wallet.

Getting Ready To Hit The Tee

For those golfers that enjoy regularly walking the course, you should seriously consider buying your own golf club bag handcart. It allows you the opportunity customize your bag further, and it will save you money over the long haul.

And, for those players that enjoy the luxury or have the necessity of driving around in a cart, you should make sure that the straps and zippers on your golf club bag are in good working order. There is nothing worse, or more embarrassing, than to have all of your stuff flying out all over the course. Finally, your golf club bag is complete and you are ready to take on the course even if your game cannot quite do the same just yet.

If you are like most golfers out there the hardest club to hit in your bag is your 3 iron, or perhaps a 2 or 1 iron.  These clubs can be very difficult to master because of the steep angle and thin head.  But rest assured there is a solution to your problem, the custom hybrid golf club.  Basically a custom hybrid golf club has all the advantages of a fairway wood and long iron put together.  They have the distance you need with control and accuracy

Custom Hybrid Golf Club – What is it?

Basically a custom hybrid golf club is a club that fits right below you fairway woods and right above your five iron.  These clubs have distance similar to a one, two, three or even four iron, but have a much thicker almost wood like head.  The shafts for these clubs are generally longer than irons, but not as long as a fairway wood, hence the custom hybrid golf club name.

A custom hybrid golf club has a head that while being bigger than you irons actually gives you more control than an iron.   It is this dual nature that makes these clubs so versatile, especially from the fairway.

While they may seem to be a wonder club that will solve all of your long iron problems, this is not the case.  They are very good from the fairway, but have significant problems when the going gets tough.  They are not at all effective from the sand, and can be difficult to use when hitting out of anything but the best of conditions. You will still want to keep at least one high iron in your bag if you plan on hitting for distance out of the previously listed situations.

Also, hybrid clubs have a tendency to be almost impossible to use impart accurate spin onto a ball, effectively meaning playing hook or fade shots can be tricky business.  In addition, back or topspin will be very difficult to put on a ball so judging distances can be difficult.  Again these clubs are not meant to replace you irons, but rather to be use in some very specific situations.

So in the end it is up to you to decide whether to include a custom hybrid golf club in your bag.  I would suggest taking one or two and trying them out to see whether or not they fit your game.  For some people they are a godsend and others may find them completely useless.  I find them to be a perfect club for the 3 iron and up range, adding a significant amount of distance over a 3 iron with very few drawbacks.

If you are just beginning to become interested in the game of golf and want to own your own clubs, it may be financially more responsible to look into buying a cheap golf club set just in case you quickly lose interest in the game. For many golfers a big name brand of golf clubs can break their budget only to find out they truly stink at the game and they have a bag containing several hundreds of dollars worth of metal sitting in their garage or basement with little hope of recovering their investment.

It should not be too difficult to find a cheap golf club set to start out with, at least until you find out if you are going to maintain interest in the game. Many discount retailers sell a cheap golf club set especially for those getting started in the sport and often have sales at the end of the season in their area. These types of sets can be especially appealing if a younger player is showing an interest in the game and can be used as a starter set.

Many available cheap golf club sets will include irons from three to nine, a putter, a drive and two fairway woods, typically a three and a five. While they may not carry a brand name usually seen on the professional golfer’s tour, they can be of a quality that will last at least through a couple of seasons.

Things To Look For In A Cheap Set Of Clubs

When looking to buy a cheap golf club set you should check to see how the grips of the clubs feel in your hands. There are several different grades of grips and during the first season of play should not pose too much of a problem. However, if you end up using the same cheap golf club set the following year, you might want to consider replacing the grips with ones that feel better in your hands. They should be soft to the touch, yet feel sturdy enough to grip tight.

How the club heads are attached to the shaft is also important as you could end up with the heads flying off with some of the cheap golf club sets. Although unlikely, with some of the cheaper sets they have been known to fly down the fairway further than the ball.  There should also be an indicator on the grip that points to the center of the club head to help achieve proper alignment when addressing the ball.
